         July 16, 1862 - March 25, 1931

The Ida B. Wells Memorial Foundation was established in 1988 in Chicago, Illinois by five of her grandchildren. The Foundation seeks to preserve and promote Wells' legacy of dedication to the principles of superior journalism, social justice, education, equality and integrity.

Ida B. Wells Scholarship

On an annual basis, $1,000 scholarships are awarded to three outstanding students who attend Ida B. Wells’ alma mater, Rust College, in Holly Springs, Mississippi. The Foundation is committed to providing assistance to students who excel in education and show leadership qualities at this historically black college.

Ida B. Wells Annual Birthday Festival

The annual Ida B. Wells Birthday Festival takes place on a weekend close to her July 16th birthday.  The community of Holly Springs, Mississippi welcomes all to join in the celebration of the woman who was born and raised in their town.  

The Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum and Ida B. Wells Memorial Foundation work together to create a weekend of music and dance performances, a tour, banquet and awards ceremony that involve children and adults alike.
